Vice President Al Gore says Republicans in Congress have made the U-S a “deadbeat nation.” During yesterday afternoon’s taping of an Iowa Public Television program, Gore stepped up his criticism of the G.O.P.’s refusal to pay dues to the United Nations.Gore also said Republicans in the U-S Senate were “breathtakingly reckless” in rejecting an International treaty which would have enforced a ban on nuclear testing.Gore has drawn criticism for hiring feminist author Naomi Wolf to advise him on campaign style, like what clothes to wear. Gore wore a dark blue suit yesterday — reverting to the politician’s traditional uniform — but Gore said he would keep Wolf on as an advisor.A new poll shows Gore with a two-to-one lead over challenger Bill Bradley, but Gore rejects it as meaningless. The poll was conducted by t-v stations in Des Moines, Sioux City, Lincoln and the Quad Cities.
