This is supposed to be the season of giving. One certified public accountant recommends Iowans put some serious thought into the giving concept NOW, before the year is out. It can help you feel better about yourself, help out a charity and it could be a nice benefit come tax time next year.Jeff Strawhacker practices in West Des Moines and is a member of the Iowa Society of Certified Public Accountants. He says in this world that’s becoming so conscious of the stock market, another tax write-off could be found in the securities area.In the flurry to give, Strawhacker says to remember NOT to give yourself too much credit for charitable donations of clothing and other household items or else you may land in hot water with a certain federal agency. He recommends people carefully document ALL contributions to charity, no matter how small or large.
