Reggie White and Gary Bauer want to sack Governor’s gay rights plan

December 1, 1999 By admin

A retired pro-football star and a republican presidential candidate lent their voices to last night’s protest against Governor Vilsack’s executive order which bans discrimination against homosexual state workers. Former Green Bay Packer Reggie White spoke before a crowd of over 200 in Des Moines. White says equating civil rights based on sexual orientation is an offense to every black person in America.White said the majority of Americans feel the same way he does, that homosexuality is a sin. White says he has no problem with homosexuals, but does have a problem with their agenda.Republican presidential candidate Gary Bauer urged Vilsack to rescind his order.Bauer said conduct like homosexuality should not be protected by anti-discrimination policies.Bill Horn, an anti-gay activist who heads a group called “Straight from the Heart Ministries,” said the Governor could wear a dress in private if he wants, but shouldn’t force his pro-gay views in the workplace.
