MidAmerican faces accusations of violations in airport accident

December 3, 1999 By admin

The Iowa Utilities Board accuses MidAmerican Energy of at least three federal violations for a gas pipeline accident at the Des Moines Airport in August. A construction crew struck a natural gas line, forcing the evacuation of the terminal for a couple of hours. Don Sturesma is the manager of the Utilities Board safety section.he says the board alleges the pipe was not properly buried. He says the company also did not keep proper records — and it took MidAmerican too long to get to the airport to shut off the gas. Sturesma says MidAmerican now has 30 days to answer the allegations. He says the board will wait to get the MidAmerican response before deciding if any penalties are warranted.
