Quiz shows make a comeback

January 5, 2000 By admin

With A-B-C’s “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” and the Fox Network’s “Greed”, t-v quiz shows are making a big comeback. Chris Martin, a professor of Communication Studies at the University of Northern Iowa, says the shows draw lots of interest because the contestants are usually ordinary people. He says these game shows can remain on “prime time” for a while, but we probably won’t see them at the level of their highest popularity 50 years ago when there were some 20 shows on the air.Martin says the networks like the shows because they don’t carry a large price tag to produce — about half what it costs for a sitcom.Several new quiz shows are set to premier yet this month.
