Des Moines tries to keep people coming in after caucuses

January 24, 2000 By admin

Des Moines economic development officials are trying to keep the spotlight on Iowa even after the candidates leave following tonight’s caucuses. The Greater Des Moines Partnership is placing ads in a major national newspaper in Chicago, Denver, Kansas City, Minneapolis and St. Louis. Spokesperson Susan Ramsey says the ads promote Des Moines and the group’s website. She says the partnership has been busy fielding calls from the journalists who will cover tonight’s event. Those calls have steadily increased this month.Ramsey says it’s hard to put a price tag on what the event means to Des Moines and the state because the number of participants varies each time.Des Moines and the rest of the state of received tons of free publicity as all the major networks are beaming pictures of Des Moines across the world in their coverage of the caucuses.
