A town hall meeting in the Hamilton County town of Williams last night focused on residents’ concerns about a new coal transfer station. Since Alliant Energy opened the facility in November, clouds of coal dust have been making a mess, along with noise pollution and the vibration of big trucks rumbling down the road. Alliant Vice President Paul Treangn says the meeting was an eye-opener for the company.Treangn says the company wants to be a good neighbor and has built a windbreak near the transfer station, for starters.Williams Mayor Scott Cress says he’s satisfied with the latest developments.State Representative Russell Teig, a republican from Jewell, also attended the meeting and says it looks like progress is being made.Residents presented petitions to Alliant last night with more than 200 signatures, demanding something be done about the problems.
