Area code change can be an opportunity

February 1, 2000 By admin

The executive director of the Mason City Chamber of Commerce says businesses should take the inconvenience of a new area code and turn it into a positive. Mason City is in the portion of the 5-1-5 area code that the Iowa Utilities Board has voted to assign a new code to free up more telephone numbers. Dick Granchalek says the change doesn’t have to be all bad. He says it can be an opportunity to contact old clients and new ones.He says others have made the switch to a new area code without great disruptions. The new area code will be phased in by June & will be mandatory in September. The numbers for the new area code haven’t been decided.
