An unusual bread bakery that plans to distribute its products nationwide will build a six-million-dollar facility near Iowa City in North Liberty. Colorado-based Rudi’s Bakery will produce all organic products, meaning they’re all-natural and chemical-free.Marty Kelly is president of the Iowa City Area Development Group, which helped lure Rudi’s Bakery. It’ll mean the creation of more than 100 jobs. Kelly says the bakery will use special ingredients and adhere to strict guidelines to produce its organic breads.Kelly says the bread will be thawed overnight before being put on grocery shelves in Iowa and from Florida to Massachusetts. While Iowa has a very low unemployment rate and what may be perceived as a lack of workers, Kelly says that’s not an apparent problem in the Iowa City area.Ground is expected to be broken on the new factory within 30 days with production getting underway this summer.
