"Magic" buses being tested in Des Moines

Anyone who’s ever raced to make it through a yellow light will appreciate new technology they’re experimenting with in Des Moines. The Who sang about a “Magic Bus” but the capitol city will soon have ten magic buses cruising the streets, equipped with high-tech gadgets that’ll let bus drivers keep rolling by keeping green lights green.Des Moines Metropolitan Transit Authority General Manager Steve Spade says “extended green” technology is already being used by some police & fire crews in Iowa. Spade says they hope to keep the buses on time and make them more desireable to communters.The cost to equip ten buses and ten stoplights — 75-thousand dollars.
