Ellsworth loses business

February 17, 2000 By admin

The town of Ellsworth in north-central Iowa’s Hamilton County is losing one of its largest employers. Uncle B’s Bakery Works closed last week after making bagels, breads and other baked goods for nearly ten years. Firm president Howard McClennan Junior says the new business they anticipated didn’t come through. The shut-down puts 52 workers on the street. McClennan says it’s possible the equipment from the factory will be sold to someone & it’s also a possibility someone will buy the entire bakery to re-open it.Ellsworth Mayor Paul Valde says the announcement is devastating to his community. The bakery opened nearly a decade ago in a former Land O’ Lakes turkey processing plant.
