Governor won’t raise truck load limits

March 6, 2000 By admin

Governor Tom Vilsack has decided against raising the weight limit for semis so truckers can carry larger loads. Republican legislators had asked Vilsack to consider the move as a way to help truckers whose profits have dipped because of the recent hike in diesel fuel prices. Vilsack says he had safety concerns, as well as concerns about the damage heavier trucks would cause to the state’s highways.
