Farm Bureau pushes senate for ethanol bill

April 5, 2000 By admin

Over 250 members of the Iowa Farm Bureau flooded the statehouse rotunda today, asking Senators to support a “pro-ethanol” bill. The bill would force gas stations to offer corn-based ethanol in the lowest octane, which is 87. Charlie Norris of Mason City lobbied his Senator, Thurman Gaskill of Corwith. Norris says Gaskill has been against mandates, but he feels this bill would offer choice and not be a mandate. The Senate Ways and Means tax-writing Committee approved the bill this afternoon and it’ll next be considered by the full Senate.
