This is the busiest time of the year for bean counters. Federal tax returns are due Monday and C-P-A’s across Iowa are burning more than just the midnight oil to take care of all their clients.Jeff Strawhacker, of West Des Moines, is a member of the Iowa Society of Certified Public Accountants. He says people who need a C-P-A’s help on their taxes at this late date may find themselves in a pickle. Strawhacker says accountants may have to file for an extension to be sure they have a chance to properly look over all information to do the best job for a taxpayer.Strawhacker says people who do their taxes at home often commit a couple of mistakes, which can be very costly. In particular, he says people need to keep very close track of their stock or mutual fund sales in addition to their deductions for things like donations to charities.
