Legislature asks cities to look at bouncer training

April 27, 2000 By admin

The Iowa Legislature has voted to ask cities to consider “bouncer education” courses for the “tough guys” standing guard at the entry doors to the state’s nightclubs. The move is a reaction to the chokehold death of a black man from Des Moines. Two Des Moines-area bouncers are charged with manslaughter. Representative Wayne Ford of Des Moines is pleased with the legislature’s response to the incident.Ford says Charles Lovelady’s father hopes the law ensures his son didn’t die in vain.On Tuesday, Ford tried but failed to get the proposal attached to a budget bill. On Wednesday, the legislature approved the bill on a separate votes in the House and Senate before adjourning for the year.
