About five thousand Iowans are making their way through cities, towns and rural areas to count those who have not responded to the U-S Census. The counters are called “enumerators” and can offer proper identification when they knock at your door.Deb Ostrem, manager of the Census Bureau office in Des Moines, says the enumerators will probably be carrying a Census Bureau bag full of questionaires. The enumerators started their door-to-door march this past weekend. Ostrem says if you didn’t send back your Census form, you’ll probably be getting a visit. In addition, many Iowans with post office boxes didn’t get a form.Ostrem says they’ll be doing “quality control” later this month, so you may get a phone call from the Census Bureau to verify the information you sent in, or to review the work of the cross-checking “enumerators.”
