With six signees and two transfers, Iowa basketball coach Steve Alford has the nation’s top recruiting class according to Future Stars Magazine. Van Coleman of Future Stars says Iowa moved into the top spot after prized St. Johns recruit Darius Miles opted to enter the N-B-A draft.Coleman says Steve Alford’s name recognition helped in his first recruiting effort as the Iowa coach. He says Alford has created some excitement in the program and gotten a lot of good publicity. He says Iowa also can offer recruits a chance to play right away.Coleman says while former coaches Lute Olson and George Raveling had some solid recruiting classes, none were considered the best in the country.Larry Eustachy’s recruiting class at Iowa State is ranked 13th and Coleman says that is after junior college center Ernest Brown announced he would opt for the N-B-A draft.Coleman says both Iowa State and Iowa have bright futures based on their success on the recruiting trail.
