Nursing home officials in Iowa and throughout the nation today attacked Clinton/Gore Administration spending policies. Glen Roebuck of ManorCare Health Services in Davenport says the Balanced Budget Act of 1997 called for cutting Medicare spending by one-sixth. Instead, Roebuck says Medicare spending has been cut by twice that amount.Roebuck says 10 percent of nursing homes nationwide have filed for bankruptcy in the past eight months as a result.Roebuck says it’s time to fully restore the skilled nursing care benefit for America’s elderly who rely on Medicare.Roebuck says an independent review found Medicare spending over the past seven years had been cut by nearly 16 BILLION more dollars than was required by law.
