Experts say you can save gas by making a few simple adjustments

Experts at the Iowa Energy Center at Iowa State University say you can save money on gas just by making some adjustments in your driving habits. Energy Center spokesperson Adriene Koett-Cronn says one easy way to save is to ease off the gas pedal as you use less gas driving 55 miles and hour. Koett-Cronn says you should use the cruise control and overdrive features of your car whenever possible, as they help save gas. She says being a patient driver in city traffic adds up to savings, as constantly starting and stopping in traffic uses more gas.Koett-Cronn says to check with friends to see if you can save by riding together. Carpooling once a week can cut costs by 20 percent.She says if you live close enough to work, try riding your bike.Koett-Cronn says a well-tuned car uses less gas. And if you plan on taking a vacation trip, you might consider leaving your older car at home. Koett-Cronn says you can save by renting a newer, more fuel efficient car to take on the trip.
