A former Cedar Rapids High School teacher convicted of having sex with students will serve up to 20 years in prison. 31-year old David Simmons was convicted in April of two counts of third-degree sexual abuse. Simmons was given the maximum ten year sentence on each count, with the sentences to run consecutively. Simmons was convicted of having a sexual relationship with a 15-year old girl in 1998 and a 14-year old girl in 1999. He was a teacher at Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School at the time of the relationships.
