A non-profit group that provides mentors to abused, neglected and delinquent children holds its annual fundraiser tomorrow in central Iowa. The event is called Summerfest and it’s designed to be an afternoon of family entertainment in the town of Ackworth, just east of Indianola.Lois Fingerman is executive director of V-I-P or Very Important Partners. Fingerman says V-I-P trains and matches adult role models that provide guidance and hopefully greater stability to a child’s life. There are 60 children now matched with V-I-P mentors but another 34 are still waiting for volunteers.V-I-P was established in 1974. The Summerfest event runs from 4 to 7 p-m Sunday.
