Tax free weekend no holiday for merchants

Stores across Iowa today are enjoying the calm before the storm. Retailers are forecasting a storm of shoppers Friday and Saturday brought on by the “Sales Tax Holiday”. The state is suspending the sales tax on clothes that cost less than one hundred dollars for those two days. Erin Essing is the assistant manager of the Target store at the Southern Hills Mall in Sioux City. She advises shoppers to show up early in the day or late in the evening.Essing says they’ve scheduled all-available personnel to meet the expected mass of humanity.Rodney Ronk is the assistant manager of a Wal-Mart Store in Sioux City. He says their game plan is much the same as their competitor.Ronk says they’ve heard stories of shopping frenzies in Texas, and have consulted with stores there.Athletic apparel is not covered under the sales tax holiday. It’s estimated that Iowans will save three million dollars during the two-day event.
