Wendelsdorf testifies in Watkins’ murder trial

August 14, 2000 By admin

A key witness took the stand today in the murder trial of a Spirit Lake woman. Heidi Watkins’ former boyfriend Jesse Wendelsdorf took the stand as a prosecution witness against Watkins. Wendelsdorf testified that he did not kill or abuse Watkins’ daughter, Shelby Duis. Wendelsdorf also testified he didn’t know how Duis’ blood got on a broom handle that also included his fingerprints. Watkins is charged with first-degree murder and child endangerment in the death of Duis. Wendelsdorf was acquitted of those same charges last month.
