ISU sees record fall enrollment

September 6, 2000 By admin

There are more students enrolled at Iowa State University this fall semester than ever before. I-S-U officials say enrollment is up from last fall more than 700 students to 26-thousand-845. That beats the previous record high of 26-thousand-529 which was set in 1985. Mark Harding, I-S-U’s director of admissions, says the Ames institution has a fantastic reputation.Harding also attributes the record enrollment to facility improvements like those at Howe Hall, which boasts one of only three virtual reality rooms in the world that is six-sided. He says there’s also the popularity of last year’s men’s and women’s basketball teams, plus, it’s just a pretty campus.Harding says the state’s population is about 96-percent white and only about four-percent ethnic minority. Harding says I-S-U’s student population is about six-point-six percent minorities. The University of Iowa expects to release its enrollment numbers next Tuesday. The University of Northern Iowa will release its numbers on Friday. U-N-I has seen two straight years of record enrollments, with about 13-thousand-500 students last fall.
