Tourism in Iowa sets record

The Iowa Division of Tourism says a record four billion dollars was spent on tourism in Iowa last year. State tourism division director Nancy Landess.says Iowa’s tourism increased by five-point-four percent compared to four-point-six percent nationwide. Landess says an increase in promotional money has helped spur more tourism.She says the money spent on advertising tourism pays off with a 32-dollar return for each dollar spent.Landess says half of the tourism dollars come from other states. She says high gas prices haven’t kept people from traveling.Landess says you have to travel 50 miles or more to an event to have it count in the tourism numbers.
