The Hawkeye State has not seen any great fluctuations in the number of adults who smoke in the past year, according to a new study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Cathy Calaway is director of Iowa’s Youth Tobacco Prevention and Control Division. She says the study found 23-point-five percent of Iowa adults smoke, ranking the state 20th in the nation. Calaway says Iowa’s ranking of 20th is right where we’ve been for several years, but she hopes there will be a change for the better in the future.Calaway says Iowa is continuing to focus on preventing the state’s young people from ever starting to smoke. The C-D-C report found Nevada had the highest adult smoking rate at 31-point-5 percent, while Utah had the lowest state rate at 13-point-9 percent. Puerto Rico was actually lower at 13-point-7 percent.
