Luke Recker’s basket with 35-seconds remaining proved to be the game winner as the Iowa Hawkeyes held off Drake 73-71 before a record crowd in the Knapp Center.Iowa coach Steve Alford says his team is going through a lot of new things and they’ve managed to win. Alford says he likes the gutsy performances, but not the slow starts. Drake had the ball down by one but Iowa forced a held ball with three seconds remaining. Alford says that wasn’t easy and he’s pleased the way his team reacted.For Drake and coach Kurt Kanaskie it marked the third straight year they took the Hawkeyes to the wire only to come up short. He says it’s games like this that make him want to get into sports reporting.Kanaskie says rebounding was one of the keys to the game, as Iowa killed them on the boards.
