Decorah Wal-Mart fight goes to Supreme Court

January 3, 2001 By admin

The fight over a new Wal-Mart store in Decorah is going to the Iowa Supreme Court. Three Decorah residents are appealing a decision by the city council to allow Wal-Mart to install fill dirt in a flood plain near the Upper Iowa River. Wal-Mart plans to build a new 184-thousand square foot store at the site. The three claim the construction will cause flooding and property damage. A district court judge sided with the city council and the Decorah residents are appealing to the Iowa Supreme Court.
