Could polka music be hazardous to your health? University of Iowa officialsapparently think it’s a possibility. The U-of-I student Pep Band can stillplay the popular song that’s been a long tradition at sporting events, butband members are now forbidden from singing the words. The song’s titlecomprises half its lyrics — “In Heaven There Is No Beer, That’s Why WeDrink It Here.” The other line is — “And when we are gone from here, ourfriends will be drinking all our beer.” U-of-I officials say there’ve beencomplaints about the song and some feel it endorses drinking. Some studentssay it’s just a celebration song that has fallen victim to politicalcorrectness.
