Peter Yarrow of “Peter, Paul and Mary” fame urged Iowa lawmakers to support programs that teach conflict resolution and problem solving. He asked lawmakers to help establish Iowa classrooms as “ridicule free” zones.He sang a few songs to make his point.Yarrow runs a program called “Operation Respect” that sends conflict resolution and character education coursework to schools. He says the program teaches kids way to talk to each other in ways that don’t lead to conflict.Yarrow praised Iowa’s “character education” programs, but warned that few education colleges include courses which teach future teachers how to lead “character” classes.
