Top republican lawmakers will meet with democrat Governor Tom Vilsack Monday to talk about making cuts in the state budget. Senate Republican Leader Stewart Iverson of Dows says the cuts may range as high as 40-millon dollars. Iverson says they’re going to do what they have to do, and “it’s not gonna be pleasant.”Vilsack’s spokesman said yesterday the Governor’s ready to talk, but House Republican Leader Christopher Rants of Sioux City says the Governor should have already presented lawmakers with some budget cut ideas.Rants says Vilsack is “fiddling while the State Treasury burns.” Rants says republicans will come up with their own set of budget cuts by Tuesday.
