House blows up in southwest Iowa

March 2, 2001 By admin

A home exploded in the southwest Iowa town of Elliott yesterday, sending a 71-year-old man to the hospital. Deana Lewis is a neighbor who rushed to the scene. When Lewis arrived, the west side of the house was on the ground, and she could see Lyle Acree lying inside. Acree, whose nickname is Bud, was burned in the explosion and is listed in stable condition in an Omaha hospital, but is expected to recover. Investigators haven’t determined what caused the blast, but there’s no suspicion of foul play.
