Friday night’s class 1A championship matchup is set at the girl’s state basketball tournament. Top ranked and defending champion Preston earned its 56th straight victory with a 67-54 victory over George-Little Rock. Preston canned seven three pointers in the opening half but Coach Todd Borrison felt good defense set the tone. Borrison says it was a good effort by his team.Amy Young led Preston with 16-points and with eight steals broke the all-time Iowa record for career steals. George-Little Rock coach Ken Roseberry says Preston has too many weapons. Roseberry says they have a well-rounded team and a well-rounded coach. Third ranked Keokuk Cardinal Stritch scored the game’s final 13-points from the free throw line in the last minute and 43-seconds in a 57-44 victory over fourth ranked Rockwell-Swaledale. Cardinal Stritch coach Tony Sargent said it was a nail-biting game to watch. Jennifer Goetz led cardinal Stritch with 24-points as the Lionettes take an unbeaten mark into the title game.
