Iowa’s Governor says it’s time to consider land conservation as a commodity, just like the crops that are grown on that land. Governor Tom Vilsack’s back in Iowa after a weekend conference in D-C, where he encouraged federal officials to provide more financial incentives for farmland conservation.Vilsack says paying farmers to plant grassy buffer strips along creeks and rivers is a better alternative than having the feds buy the land, or having more federal regulations for farmers.
