The first full day at the 92nd Drake Relays is underway with nearly ideal conditions. Arkansas, making its first visit to Drake in 20-years, won the four-mile relay, but failed to break the meet record. Carroll’s Adam Huluska is a future Iowa State basketball player. Today, Huluska won the boys’ high school long jump with a leap of 23-feet three-quarters inch. Huluska’s winning jump came early in the competition before he ran a qualifying race in the 100-meters.On his final jump Huluska was over 24-feet but he scratched on the take-off, he thinks the 100-meter race loosened him up some.Laura Tomes of Sioux City East cleared five feet six inches to win the girls high school high jump. It was her first trip to the Drake Relays after her family moved to Sioux City from North Dakota.Tomes says it was not her highest jump of the season, but she’ll take the title.Tiff Pederson from Atlantic pulled away from Blair Anderson of Burlington to win one of the new events at the Relays, the girls high 100-hurdles.
