The Iowa Lottery unveiled a new scratch-off game today that offers as prizes, trips to tourist destinations in the state. Lottery spokeswoman Mary Neubauer says in the past there have been travel promotions, but they offered winners things like cruise trips. She says as they tried to come up with a new game, the tourism industry came to ask for a cooperative promotion. Scratch-off tickets will offer winners a prize like a trip to the Amana Colonies or Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad, and more offbeat ones like a day of hunting at a Runnels gun club or State Fair admission and grandstand tickets. Neubauer says the new scratch-off promotion comes at a good time for Iowans considering travel. As she says with high gas prices a lot of people are looking at vacationing close to home, and free trips are even better. The newest lottery tickets offering travel to Iowa destinations also will be a boost to operators of resorts and other attractions. Neubauer says the lottery made an offer the tourism industry couldn’t refuse, donate a package, and the lottery would buy a package of equal or lesser value. The name of the new scratch-off game is “Iowa — Come Be Our Guest.”
