Tired of paying sales tax on the kids’ summer clothes? State lawmakers have set up another “Tax Freedom Weekend” so you don’t have to pay sales tax on back-to-school clothing. It’s scheduled August 3rd and 4th, and doesn’t apply to really expensive stuff according to Renee Mulvey of the Iowa Department of Revenue and Finance, who says sales tax will NOT be charged on clothing and footwear that’s 100 dollars or less. The first-ever “Tax Freedom Weekend” in Iowa was held last year, in August. Mulvey says there were some problems, and officials have some reminders for retailers.Mulvey says if a business that sells clothing and footwear is open those two days, it’s required to participate. And she says businesses can’t run ads promising to pay the sales tax for the customer on more expensive purchases. If you want to check which items are supposed to be sold tax-free that weekend, check the state’s website. The address is www.state.ia.us/tax
