Vets have to wait for checks

June 7, 2001 By admin

The check’s in the mail. That’s the excuse the Veterans Service Office in Des Moines is giving to some eastern Iowa veterans.Scores of vets have called the V-A office, saying disability checks are late. The Treasury Department didn’t print the checks till late May, and the Memorial Day Holiday may have delayed them. Officials say the veterans should see their latest check any day. At least one vet says he gets direct deposit to his bank account, and never sees a check.
