Four Iowa Congressmen and Senator Grassley flew to Iowa yesterday with President Bush, and Congressman Jim Leach says they talked for about ten minutes about the waiver from Clean Air rules so California gas stations don’t have to sell ethanol. Leach says it’s an issue of timing, and says the President is clearly committed to ethanol.During his Iowa farm speech yesterday, Bush avoided mentioning the California waiver, but Bush made generally supportive comments.Bush said ethanol was important because it reduces America’s dependence on foreign oil and cleans the air. In May, Governor Vilsack met briefly with Bush on the issue, and Vilsack said afterwards Bush gave him the impression Iowa ethanol-backers would be happy once the decision is made public.
