Iowa Senator Tom Harkin — the chairman of the U-S Senate Ag Committee — says the next Farm Bill should have more for livestock producers.Harkin envisions giving federal grants not to the big operators, but to smaller livestock producers to help them meet environmental standards. He says past ag bills have been weighted more toward commodities.Harkin is exploring ways to offer financial incentives for land conservation. He says farmers need to be reimbursed for being good stewards of the land.Harkin made his comments on the Iowa Public Television program “Iowa Press.”
