North central Iowa’s largest health-care network is making cuts in its staff. Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa has laid off ten physicians, as well as seven physicians’ assistants or nurse practitioners at area clinics. The cost cutting measures are taking place at the clinics in Mason City, Nora Springs, Rockford, and Cresco. Mercy officials say they’ve experienced collective losses from its clinic practices that can no longer by subsidized through Mercy’s acute care services. Other affects of the cutbacks include the closing of Mercy’s Eldora facility on August 24th.
