Homes in Volga destroyed as part of flood buyout

July 13, 2001 By admin

Home demolition as part of a flood buy-out project is underway in the northeastern Iowa town of Volga in Clayton County. Crews are mowing over properties as part of a federal buy-out following the flood of 1999. At least ten of the properties are just foundations of homes that have already been moved to higher ground. The government bought 31 houses and two commercial businesses at fair market value.
