Webster City man can’t get someone to fly his chickens

August 4, 2001 By admin

An Iowa businessman says it’s getting more difficult to ship his chickens. Northwest Airlines is the only major carrier that has been shipping chicks for the U-S Postal Service, but will stop August 15th. Murray McMurray of Webster City is worried. The Murray McMurray Hatchery ships baby chicks, ducklings and goslings all over the country. He’s lobbying Iowa’s congressional delegation for action, and asking his customers to call their federal legislator, too. He wants to force the Post Office to force the airlines not to discriminate against the type of mail they send. One of McMurray’s customers is decorating maven Martha Stewart.
