Iowa coach says team’s poised to move ahead

It’s media day today in Iowa City, where University of Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz is preparing for his third season. Ferentz says the coaching staff feels this team is their own. And with 17 starters and 48 lettermen back from last year’s 3-9 team, he says they’re ready for the next step. He says they’ve finally had a chance get to know all the players and coaches.He says there’s more stability as they enter this fall’s campaign.Ferentz says winning two of their last three games last season has been a plus in a number of ways, from teaching the team they can compete, to momentum into recruiting.Kyle McCann and John Beutjer both started at quarterback last year, and are battling it out for the top job this fall. Ferentz says they have confidence in both qb’s.The Hawkeyes open their season September 1st at home against Kent State.
