Davenport mayoral candidate in the center of a controversy

August 14, 2001 By admin

A candidate for mayor in Davenport is at the center of controversy. Outgoing Mayor, Phil Yerington, says he’s pulling his support away from candidate John Waddell after an incident Sunday. Waddell is accused of roughing up a young man at a convenience store. Waddell says he asked a man to turn down the radio in his truck, and then patted him on the shoulder and thanked him. Waddell says 20-year-old Michael Foster then became abusive. Foster says Waddell assaulted him. No arrests have been made in the incident. Waddell is one of six candidates for mayor.
