Iowa State tired of being the Rodney Dangerfield of football

August 15, 2001 By admin

A year ago, Iowa State was looking for a breakthrough season and got it with a 9-3 finish and a victory in the Insight-dot-combowl in Phoenix. Cyclone coach Dan McCarney says the next step is to maintain the success and realizes few expect that to happen. He says people say Iowa State is rebuilding this year, not reloading.McCarney says with the loss of 11-starters off last year’s team the pre-season publications don’t think much of the Cyclones’ chances in the Big-12 race. He says they only had one player picked as a preseason Big 12 player.Junior college transfer Seneca Wallace is the favorite to win the job at quarterback though McCarney says sophomore Gerrin Scott and freshman Chris Love are in the mix.
