-Many Scott County residents spent the weekend printing and circulating new petitions in a political battle with a Wednesday deadline. At issue is the five million dollar donation county supervisors made to a development project for Davenport’s riverfront. Supervisors say the donation was needed to secure 20-million dollars in Vision Iowa funds from the state. But opponents to the county gift want to force the issue to a referendum in November. They say they already had more than the needed seven thousand signatures on their first petition but Friday the Iowa Attorney General ruled the petition’s wording was misleading. The new petition was prepared and backers started taking it around Friday.
