September is literacy month

September is “Literacy Month” in Iowa. John Hartwig with the Iowa Department of Education says the purpose of the month is to bring awareness to the problem of illiteracy. The latest figures for Iowa adults show 39-percent are at the lowest two literacy levels measured by the adult literacy survey. That compares to 50-percent of the population nationwide. Hartwig says there are numerous programs nationwide to help.For more information surf to www.readiowa.org.
