A lawsuit filed against the Edgewood-Colesburg school by a fired teacher goes to trial Thursday. Carol Walthart is challenging her firing over an accident that claimed the lives of four Ed-Co students. Walthart was fired after authorities said three of the students, including the driver, had been drinking at Walthart’s house before the accident. Walthart’s son was one of four other youths charged with underage drinking in the case. Walthart’s suit claims the school board’s move to terminate her was improperly affected by opinions or information introduced by the board’s attorney during deliberations on her fate. She is trying to get her job back. The case will be heard by a Delaware County judge.
