State wants evidence of gas gouging

September 12, 2001 By admin

Officials are urging Iowans who bought really pricey gasoline yesterday to send their receipts to the Attorney General, who will prosecute price gougers. Lieutenant Governor Sally Pederson says rumors raged, but just a handful of Iowa gas stations actually jacked-up prices significantly.Pederson says the state just did a fuel pump survey, and found the price now ranges from a dollar-65 to a dollar-75 a gallon.Pederson spoke in Dubuque yesterday and, as is normal, a state trooper drove her back to Des Moines. Stations were so backed up along the route they didn’t stop for gas, and the tank was so low Pederson had the Trooper swing by her house so they could use her private car, which had enough gas for the remainder of her day’s travels.
